History of PTEC

1989 August - The 1st Pharmacy Technician Educators Conference. Members met in Columbia, SC. Don Ballington organized this first conference as a networking / information sharing experience for technician educators.

1991 August -The 3rd Pharmacy Technician Educators Conference in Charleston, SC, was the birthplace of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council. Don Ballington, the founder of PTEC, was elected president, with Larry Nesmith elected Vice President, Vincent Druash elected Treasurer, Dick Kuschinsky elected Reporter, and Jan Keresztes elected President Elect.

1993 August -The 2nd Annual PTEC meeting was hosted by President Jan Keresztes in Chicago, IL, with a meeting focus on pharmacy technology, pharmacy automation, and teaching critical thinking skills.

1990 August - The 2nd Pharmacy Technician Educators Conference was again hosted by Don Ballington. Attendance at the conference increased, and the idea of an organization dedicated to the interests and concerns of technician educators was discussed.

1992 August - The 1st Annual PTEC meeting was held in Charleston, SC, with a meeting focus on pharmacy technician program curriculum, educational materials, and instructional techniques. PTEC selected the journal of Pharmacy Technology as its official journal.

1994 August - The 3rd Annual PTEC meeting was hosted by President Peter Vonderau in Cleveland, OH, with a meeting focus on new duties and responsibilities for technicians. Discussions with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy led to a resolution to hold the 1995 PTEC meeting in conjunction with the AACP annual meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Award of Appreciation to Harvey A.K.Whitney, Jr. for the Promotion of Pharmacy Practice and Recognition and the Education of Pharmacy Technicians.

1995 July - The 4th Annual PTEC meeting, hosted by President Deborah Tapley, was held in conjunction with the AACP annual meeting in Philadelphia, PA. The joint meeting focus was "Revolution!" in healthcare and how it will change pharmacy education.

1996 July - The 5th Annual PTEC meeting and 97th annual AACP meeting was held July 14-18 in Reno, NV

1997 July - The 6th Annual PTEC meeting, was held July 12-16, 1997 in Indianapolis, IN.

1998 July - The 7th Annual PTEC meeting was held in Aspen, CO.

1999 July - The 8th Annual PTEC meeting was held in Seattle, WA.

2000 July - The 9th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 8-12 in San Diego, CA.

2000 December - New PTEC web page launched with web space and design provided by Harvey-Whitney Books.

2001 July - The 10th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 7-11 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The first annual awards were given. The Roy Kemp Award went to Kim Ballow, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Ron O. Nickel with the Medical University of South Carolina.

2002 July - The 11th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 13-16 in Kansas City, MO. The Roy Kemp Award went to Cheri Boggs, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Harvey AK Whitney, Jr, with Harvey-Whitney Books.

2003 July - The 12th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 19-22 in Minneapolis, MN. The Roy Kemp Award went to Jan Keresztes, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Melissa Murer with the PTCB.

2004 July - The 13th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 16-19 in Portland, OR. The Roy Kemp Award went to Earl McKistry, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Stanley Lloyd with Harvey-Whitney Books.

2005 July - The 14th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 15-18 in Kansas City, KS. The Roy Kemp Award went to Don Ballington, and the Phil Naut award was not given this year.

2006 July - The 15th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 13-16 in Pittsburgh, PA. The Roy Kemp Award went to Gail Askew, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Lisa Lifshin with ASHP.

2007 July - The 16th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 12-15 in Indianapolis, IN. The Roy Kemp Award went to Mary Ann Stuhan, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Paul Wagner.

2008 July - The 17th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 10-13 in Austin, TX. The Roy Kemp Award went to Barbara Snyder, and the Phil Naut Award was given to the Hal Pollard with ASHP.

2010 July - The 19th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 15-16 in Savannah, GA. The Roy Kemp Award went to Mary Mohr, and the Phil Naut Award was given to David Troy.

2011 July - The 20th Annual PTEC meeting was held July 14-16 in Memphis, TN. The Roy Kemp Award went to Barbara Lacher, and the Phil Naut Award was not given this year.

2012 July - The 21st Annual PTEC meeting was held July 12-14 in Charleston, SC. The Roy Kemp Award went to Lisa McCartney, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Elsevier. The inaugural President's Award was given to Jason Sparks.

2013 July - The 22nd Annual PTEC meeting was held July 11-12 in San Diego, CA. The Roy Kemp Award went to Mary McHugh, and the Phil Naut Award was given to the FDA. The President's Awards were given to Janet Liles and Jason Sparks.

2014 July - The 23rd Annual PTEC Meeting was held July 10-12 in Lexington, KY. The Roy Kemp Award went to Janet Liles, and the Phil Naut Award was given to Jill Spivey and PTCB.

2015 July - The 24th Annual PTEC Meeting was held July 9-11 in New Orleans, LA. The Roy Kemp Award went to Maureen Sparks, and the Phil Naut Award was co-awarded to Jack Bruggeman (ASHP) and Brenda Palo (EMCP).

2016 July - The 25th Annual PTEC Meeting was held July 14-16 in Charlotte, NC. The Roy Kemp Award went to Sherri Roumell, and the Phil Naut Award was co-awarded to Jason Sparks and Lisa Lifshin (ASHP).

2017 July - The 26th Annual PTEC Meeting was held July 13-15 in Las Vegas, NV. The Roy Kemp Award went to Tony Guerra, and the Phil Naut Award was not given.

2018 July - The 27th Annual PTEC Meeting was held July 12-14 in Indianapolis, IN. The Roy Kemp Award went to Anne LaVance, and Phil Naut Award went to Amanda Daniels.

2019 July - The 28th Annual PTEC Meeting was held July 10-12 in San Antonio, TX. The Roy Kemp Award went to Sarah Lawrence and Phil Naut Award went to Kevin Hope (freeCE by PharmCon).

2020 July - The 29th Annual PTEC Meeting was held July 21-25 online. This was the first ever virtual conference for PTEC. The Roy Kemp Award went to Irene Villatoro and the Phil Naut Award went to Zack Green (PTCB).

2022 December - PTEC was integrated as a division of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
