This tutorial describes the goals for the use of video and assessments to improve teaching. The use of video is encouraged to help provide objective analysis of what occurs in a class. The Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP) is presented as an assessment method that measures and encourages the use of effective science teaching methods.
